the messier, the cleaner

There are two feelings that have walked constantly with me throughout my life: inspiration and doubt.  I think that's why I usually answer my children's requests with a hesitant, "Oh-kaaay..."

"Mom, can we make some fancy shoes for a ball?"
"Oh-Kaaay..."  Shoes?!  I ain't no cobbler!  But, let's see what can be done.

"Mom, can we make a fort over the bathtub so we can pretend we're beavers in a dam?"
"Oh-Kaaay..." Probably not, that's crazy talk.  But I'll see what I can rig up.

"Mom, can we squish mud between our toes?"
"Oh-Kaaay..." It's only snowing outside and the only dirt around here is chemical laden potting soil and what has collected in the corners of my rooms.  But, let's see if I can find an alternative.

This is it, the equation of my life.  Want something, doubt it can be done, do it anyway.

Could be worse.

I highly doubt that anyone could confuse soap with mud.  But, for the record, both can be adequately squishy when experienced with the toes.

  2. Ok, so what happened here?? You just dissolved bar soap in water for a squish-fest? That sounds like fun!

We made homemade Moon Sand once, just to show the kids that you can make just about anything that they see in stores/on tv. That was lots of fun, but I was cleaning it up for at least a week.

  4. Have you heard of "clean mud?" A recipe by awesome teacher Bev Bos; can't quite remember ratios, but basically water, grated soap, and tons of ripped-up toilet paper. Squishy and fabulous!

  9. Ever so very cool. Have you tried corn flour and water? Or custard powder and water - it does the same thing. You can make a ball out of it, then relax your hand and it dribbles back into a liquid. Fun, and interesting.

  10. Your right, it could be worse. You could doubt it and not give it a go. A habit, which just so happens, i am trying to break myself right now. I love your ideas, they are fantastic.
