how to make both children and mama happy

'Hey, there, beautiful,' says Smootch to the large-sh cardboard box she found sitting in the middle of the living room, 'Where did you come from?'

After a few minutes of chin scratching inspection, a close look at the interior, and a hard shake to determine structural integrity, Smootch makes a decision.

'I need duct tape!'

Cardboard is the reason why my little girl has well-defined muscles in her right hand, built up from trying to saw through cardboard with safety scissors.

Photobucket

Cardboard is conduit to exotic places far beyond the reach of ordinary rockets and space ships.

Cardboard is the canvas of the imagination, the slate on which the wildest dreams are written and acted against.

Photobucket

Cardboard presents limits only held by the eye of the beholder. To the free, it is the getaway vehicle.

Cardboard is the method by which I can sew an entire dress in an afternoon, with only small interruptions to untangle scissors from duct tape webs and provide refreshments of space food.

'Save the box' is the wisdom to whisper to every new mother as she unwraps all her new baby shower presents. Cardboard is every mama's greatest ally.

Kids seem to like it too.

  6. This is great. I've been following your blog for a while now and just get a kick out of her imagination. It also inpires me to save all boxes for my little ones. And think outside the box when it comes to entertaining kiddos.

  8. Seriously, I said this before but here I go again. I 'm old, I've been around the block, and I know what I'm talking about. Your little girl is a. dor. a ble! Her personality just pops out of every photo, she makes me smile and feel happy! I love that you are such a fun and creative mom. You will never regret the time you spend making things with your little ones...who eventually will grow and end up calling you from their apts. to ask "Hey mom, how do I....?" and you'll tute them once more. Then one very special day they will send you a photo text of how they "remodeled the apt last night, can't sleep with it like it was anymore!" and you'll grin like a banshee on Halloween, knowing they are confident, creative, and can make something from nothing...
like building a rocket from a cardboard box.

Ridiculously LOVE you all! : )

  12. Never have truer words been spoken! I am thinking of putting on our next birthday invitation, "cardboard boxes only, please". Smootch and my daughter must have the same design sense because I swear we have that exact same rocket ship/castle/cave. peace, Sara
