book trailers

I like watching movie trailers.  Much more, if truth be told, than actually watching movies.  After a rough day I will sit down and movie trailers on Youtube.  After watching five or six of them I feel like I've had enough television and I'm off to bed.  The Man will actually stay up and watch a movie that we previewed but I have no patience for that.

I would rather read a book.

Book trailers, now, those I have mixed feelings about.  There is something weird about watching a dust jacket, like a part of my brain feel left out. But I also get excited about all the books I'd like to read.  All I can say for sure is they are not relaxing.

Conveniently, all sorts of publishers are eagerly trying to sell books by putting out book trailers which allows me to link up a couple of books that I am reading this week so you all can have feelings, mixed or otherwise, about them..

I've just started Polly Shulman's The Grim Legacy and I'm ridiculously excited about it.

And now I've found this trailer, which is not a book trailer, but a movie trailer for Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle!

And I am freaking out excited. I had no idea this was made into a movie.  Nine years ago!

Next up on the shelf is this little beauty:

Holly Black, by the way, was one of the collaborators on The Spiderwick Chronicles (another movie I have not seen). I have high expectations.

Any good trailers to share with me?

  2. Grimm Legacy looks really good -- thanks for the rec!

So, you've asked for recommendations for book trailers, and I have one to suggest, but with a caveat. This is a shameless plug for a book I authored (yes... shameless.) Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUBdZNWdhP0 (Making Peg Dolls by Margaret Bloom, Hawthorn Press, 2013.)

Hope you like it -- Cheers!

  3. I have actually seen Howl's Moving Castle, and I am ashamed to say that I didn't realize that it was based on a book. Whoops. But, now I have another book to add to my list!

  4. mb,

That is an adorable book trailer - looks like a great book too. I am going to get a copy in for my library if they haven't already ordered it.

(I kind of want to write a book so I can make a trailer...)

  5. The movie of Howl's Moving Castle, while very good, is only loosely based on the book. Having read the book twice and watched the movie at least 4 times (twice in Japanese with subtitles), I have to say I prefer the book. However, I still think the movie is good of its own accord.
