handmade doll for roller derby
Another art doll for a roller derby silent auction. The Belladonnas of Red Deer Roller Derby Association will be hosting a little fundraiser in the next month or so.
She is about fourteen inches tall. Her body is made of tea-stained muslin, each piece dyed separately and then pieced together.
I went a little bit over the top on the stitching. But it has whet my interest in stitching words on dolls. Something I'm going to explore a bit more in the future.
Her dress originated as a scrap from an unfinished project handed to me by a former teammate and then I added the lacework.
I love her legs. They turned out surprisingly jaunty.
Minimalist roller skates are formed from upcycled leather and wooden beads.
The hair was made with a continuous piece of purple roving, a new technique for me. It's quite soft and pretty. The picture doesn't capture it well.
Derby doll in the box. Probably for safety violations.

I do love your dolls. And the fact that you do roller derby. I keep thinking about trying it, but then I chicken out.
ReplyDeleteThe stitching on this doll is amazing. Totally cool and, as my daughter said when she caught a glimpse, creepy. But delightfully so.
oooh, I love this one. A bit creepy but stylish, with her lacey dress. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThis is sooooo beautiful! True art!
